Post Inagruation

I was going to write my thoughts & feelings on here about this historic moment, but then I read a friend's blog that tok the words out of my mouth. Hopefully she doesn't mind :)..see laurenanddanny.blogspot.com. I could just feel the energy of the day, even though I wasn't right in the city. I am not a fan of the idolizing of Barack Obama & I am concerned about the expectations many have for what he may accomplish. However, I have great hope for this country, and I am grateful that we seem to be pulling together as a nation commited to improving ourselves & serving others.

Ready for snow!

So, I wasn't too upset about not having my dreams come true with a white Christmas. After all, its one specific day that snow has to arrive on, & the D.C. area is known to have little, if any, snow during December. However, there are many thing still wrong with this scenario for a gal who moved away from the dry, non-seasonal desert to a lush place with beautiful 4 seasons & has a need for snowy winters (if its going to be super cold, it might as well be pretty & fun!). First, its late January-prime snow storm time & the temps are staying well below freezing with nasty wind chills (all the more reason snow is needed...beautify the nasty stick land & give you a reason to go outside), but no snow...only cold cold rain earlier this month (temps staying JUST above freezing for that). Second, Vegas, of all places, had a few snow storms, allowing my sister to have a snow day from school....honestly?! I never knew what a snow day was until I moved to Utah, & even then I didn't get one day off, even if we got a foot or so of snow. Lastly, to put salt in the wound, I find out from a friend's blog that Gaithersburg, MD, less than 1 hour's drive from here where we just moved from, actaully got snow a couple days ago. Why am I a snow repellant?? *SIGH* SO, I'll just keep on being enormously grateful for a warm home & a car witha heater, and I'll continue to pray & hope for snow...at least for my birthday. Any prayers are welcome in my behalf! :)

"I look pretty, Mama!"

Sophie has developed a love for Mama's lipgloss. One morning, I stepped away, & returned to find this. It's so hard not to smile or laugh when they do things like this! She's getting better at asking first.

Holiday Fun

We're catching up after all of the holidays now. We had lots of fun at Thanksgiving visiting Grandma Jocelyn's house & seeing all of Justin's siblings. Sophie impressively remembered all of her aunts' & uncles' names, and rocked out on Rock Band with us. Justin & I did some mean work in the kitchen making the feast (which we thought turned out well...what a tender, juicy turkey! mmm!). We sure had fun, & we miss everyone already.
Christmas was quite peaceful at home. We shared a wonderful meal with the Rust family, from church, and then acted out the nativity (of course, Kitty, SOphie's stuffed cat sidekick, who does everything with Sophie, dressed as a shepherd as well). Despite my wishes for my first white Christmas ever, we had a beautiful, sunny day. Sophie woke up asking Daddy, "Where did Santa go?" after searching out the window. She was quite excited to see what he'd left her, & had lots of fun playing with her new toys. Sophie caught a chest cold mid-day, which roamed through the household the following couple weeks, but we've all recovered (mostly!), & are grateful for the possibilities that 2009 bring. Man, time flies!

I finally got my act together (succombed, if you will!), & joined the blogging world. I have had little opportunity to keep in contact with all of my friends who were all slowly making blogs and only posting pictures & updates there that were hard for us non-bloggers to keep up with. I also needed a way I could more easily keep a journal for myself & our little family. So...here I am...finally! I feel so blessed in so many ways. Like everyone else, I have my daily battles & trials that can be daunting, but....what a wonderful life I have!! And with that, I hope to share all of our memorable moments, & let this be what it may be.
